Our monthly newsletter keeps student organizations informed about fundraising opportunities, key deadlines such as Giving Tuesday, Giving Blueday, and the VSO Challenge, as well as other valuable resources. It also provides a platform to promote philanthropic events and spotlight the work of individual students and student organizations.

Free Fundraising Consulting
The Student Philanthropy Team offers free fundraising consulting to all SSOs and VSOs, helping organizations develop fundraising plans and explore available opportunities. Email studentphilanthropy@umich.edu to schedule a meeting and get started.

Sponsored vs. Voluntary Student Orgs
Sponsored vs. Voluntary Student Organizations: SSOs and VSOs have different relationships with the University, which affects the activities, resources, and opportunities available to them. Student organization status and official registration are managed by the Center for Campus Involvement.

Sponsored Student Orgs (SSO)
Sponsored Student Orgs (SSO)
Sponsored Student Organizations are student organizations that operate under the direct supervision of the sponsoring University unit. SSOs must be sponsored by an executive officer, dean, or director or a major academic or operational unit.
The Student Philanthropy team can support SSOs in the following ways:
Orgs can attend Engaging Victors Conference
Fundraising on Giving Tuesday
Fundraising on Giving Blueday
Consultation/office hours
Voluntary Student Orgs (VSO)
Voluntary Student Orgs (VSO)
Voluntary Student Organizations are student organizations that seek access to certain University-controlled benefits and resources and are accountable to the University for legal compliance, fiscal responsibility, and adherence to established community standards. VSOs are encouraged to seek out a faculty/staff advisor, although this is not required.
The Student Philanthropy team can support VSOs in the following ways:
